physical standby in Max. Protection mode 2005-06-06 - By Paul Baumgartel
I have just set up (10g) physical standby in Maximum Protection mode, with real-time apply of redo from primary. Everything appears to be working, but I've noticed a couple of things that I wasn't expecting:
1. In the online log directories of the standby (where the standby redo logs live), there are additional online log files. The redo logs on the primary are Oracle-managed. These new logfiles on the standby have OMF-type names. They are not the same as those on the primary.=20 The alert log on the standby contains a number of entries such as this:
Clearing online redo logfile 2 E:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\O1_MF_2_13PNMM3F= _.LOG Clearing online log 2 of thread 1 sequence number 375 Mon Jun 06 11:07:19 2005 Errors in file e:\oracle\admin\stgsby\bdump\stgsby_mrp0_1052.trc: ORA-00313 (See ORA-00313.ora-code.com): open failed for members of log group 2 of thread 1 ORA-00312 (See ORA-00312.ora-code.com): online log 2 thread 1: 'F:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\O1_MF_2_13PNMO5V_.LOG' ORA-27041 (See ORA-27041.ora-code.com): unable to open file OSD-04002: unable to open file O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified. ORA-00312 (See ORA-00312.ora-code.com): online log 2 thread 1: 'E:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\O1_MF_2_13PNMM3F_.LOG' ORA-27041 (See ORA-27041.ora-code.com): unable to open file OSD-04002: unable to open file O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.
There are also messages such as Deleted Oracle managed file E:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\O1_MF_3_13PNN2N0_.L= OG Deleted Oracle managed file F:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\O1_MF_3_13PNN4RW_.L= OG Created Oracle managed file E:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\O1_MF_3_1B8SOJVC_.L= OG Created Oracle managed file F:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\O1_MF_3_1B8SOOY8_.L= OG
What's going on here?
2. Various trace files on the standby contain entries regarding the standby redo logs:
Mon Jun 06 14:39:56 2005 Errors in file e:\oracle\admin\stgsby\bdump\stgsby_arc1_820.trc: ORA-00322 (See ORA-00322.ora-code.com): log 5 of thread 1 is not current copy ORA-00312 (See ORA-00312.ora-code.com): online log 5 thread 1: 'F:\ORADATA\STGSBY\ONLINELOG\LOG02.RDO'
Despite all of this, the logs are being received, archived, and applied. Any insights from those who have BT, DT appreciated!
